When should I bring my child in to see a dentist?

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Dental Association both recommend bringing your child to visit a dentist at approximately one year of age. This is ideal to identify any dental problems and address them as early as possible. Many first visits are to get acquainted with the dental office and the dentist. Many first appointments usually include a comprehensive exam of the teeth, jaw, gums and other oral tissues to moniter development, cavities and other concerns. If your child will allow, xrays and a cleaning may follow. Fluoride and oral hygiene instructions also follow if desired.
